As is tradition, at the end of the year the Pantone Color Institute announces their ‘colour of the year’. This colour is decided upon after much consideration and trend analysis by the institute. The colour of the year 2019 was ‘Living Coral’, but now as we are entering the 20’s, the institute came to the conclusion we are in need of some relaxation, tranquility and reflection. And thus, the colour ‘Classic blue’ was chosen as the most prominent colour of the year 2020. The Pantone Color Institute describes this colour as follows;
“A timeless and enduring blue hue, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue is elegant in its simplicity. Suggestive of the sky at dusk, the reassuring qualities of the thought-provoking PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue highlight our desire for a dependable and stable foundation on which to build as we cross the threshold into a new era.
Imprinted in our psyches as a restful color, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue brings a sense of peace and tranquility to the human spirit, offering refuge. Aiding concentration and bringing laser like clarity, PANTONE 19-4052 Classic Blue re-centers our thoughts. A reflective blue tone, Classic Blue fosters resilience.”
Although blue is a colour that doesn’t come natural to many flowers or foliage, there are some exceptions to that rule such as Agapanthus, Anemone, Hydrangea Eryngium and Limonium. Combine the colour blue with a soft white to create a classic look, perfect for a wedding arrangement for example. Or go in the opposite direction and create a wild arrangement combining pink, purple and blue together.
