Product profile - Cat palm
April 2nd, 2019

The long green ‘fingers’ of the catpalm are an amazing addition in your bouquet or arrangement. In this weeks’ product profile we would like to tell you a little bit more about this variety.

ORIGIN

The catpalm is a small palm tree. The botanical name is Chamaedorea cataractarum, this name is Greek and has the following meaning: ‘chamai’ means ‘on the ground’ and ‘dorea’ is ‘gift’. Originally this small palm tree is from sunny south east Mexico, but you can enjoy this plant even if you don’t live close to the equator. The cat palm can be placed inside of the house or on the terrace, where it can grow up to one and a half meter. But bear in mind, this is not one of the most easy plants to take care of. It needs a lot of water, loves to soak up the sunlight and doesn’t like the cold winter weather at all. If you are not interested in all that hassle, cat palm foliage is available in our webshop and will look beautiful in a tropical themed bouquet (for example).

MYTHOLOGY

Besides from ‘cat palm’ the nicknames for this mini palm tree are ‘cascade palm’ due to its long and lavish green leaves or ‘cataract palm’.
