Product profile - Ranunculus
Spring bloomers are coming back in stock! The ranunculus is one of these spring bloomers. Although ranunculus is almost year-round available in our assortment, its peak is during spring when our assortment is incredibly substantial. With that being said, let’s have a look at the background of this cheerful and exuberant bloomer!

Origin

When we think of 'ranunculus', we envision the beautiful flower with its many silky petals that look a bit like a peony. In the botanical world, this 'version' of ranunculus is referred to as 'Ranunculus asiaticus'. The asiaticus is just one species in the enormous Ranunculaceae family, which comprises about 500 species. Famous family members within this genus include the buttercup, anemone, and delphinium.

The natural habitat of the "Ranunculus Asiaticus" includes Greece, Turkey, and Iran. They also thrive in Mediterranean environments. The name "Ranunculus" is derived from the Latin word for 'little frog'. This name doesn’t refer to the flower itself but rather to the fact that Ranunculus primarily grows in marshy areas just like frogs.

Symbolism of the Ranunculus

Flowers are full of symbolic meanings. The ranunculus symbolizes charm and allure. Therefore, this flower is the perfect gift to give to someone special.

Colours & Varieties

In our assortment, you’ll find dozens of Ranunculus varieties in an even bigger color selection. Within the ranunculus assortment, a distinction is made between the following types:

  • The 'Pon Pon' varieties have a large bloom and sturdy, lightly curled petals
  • The "Elegance" series is known for its lavish bloom and multiple flower buds per stem. Each flower has multiple layers of petals, which seem to be made of the finest silk and put an emphasis on the delicate and noble appearance of the ranunculus.
  • The ranunculus Butterfly has a unique appearance. Unlike other ranunculuses, the center of the ranunculus Butterfly is surrounded by a single layer of petals. This ranunculus has multiple flower heads per stem, and the flower heads themselves are surrounded by just a single row of petals. In that sense, Ranunculus Butterfly somewhat looks like a branched anemone. Learn more about ranunculus Butterfly

All ranunculus are available in dozens of colors, ranging from soft pink to burgundy and bright orange.
